Back in 2018, a First Lego League team formed not knowing what they were getting into. The Gearhead Griffins were young 6th graders, fascinated by two things: Legos, and robots. They worked vigorously through the year, easily making it to NYC Finals and their final stop, Razorback Invitational. This invitational at the University of Arkansas gave the team insight into what the highest level competition is all about. In 2019, the team came to the conclusion that more help was needed, so they took on two more bright minds to ease the workload. Smashing their score from the previous year, they were set to be front runners at NYC Finals again when, sadly, Covid-19 hit. Although the rest of that season was lost because of the pandemic, the team remained interested in the competition, and decided to make a monumental change.
Switch to FTC.
First Tech Challenge was a big step up from its predecessor with the robot alone scaling 4 times the size and the field 6 times. To conquer the 2020 FTC challenge, more engaged and inspired additions were needed. The majority of this year was done online, only meeting up at the end of the season for the virtual competition. As the only 8th grade team, AIM Robotics made a name for themselves as an upcoming team in NYC. Now, as the 2021 season begins, they are looking to shoot higher and farther than they ever have before.
